Many U.S. auto consumers got a bit of a break in September, when the average national monthly car insurance cost was flat at $150, though cost realities depended on the state the insured lives.
The Insurify research found that the average full-coverage policy was essentially steady, dropping by a dollar to $195 to help the overall average hold. Liability only was also flat at $104 per month.
Some individual states saw increases, though, while others experienced cost declines, the insurance shopping website said. New York had the biggest full-coverage rate increase at $136, while Connecticut enjoyed the largest decrease: $96, according to the study.
Nevertheless, the Constitution state had the third-highest overall average. Rounding out the five highest were Maryland, Michigan, South Carolina and Nevada. The five with the lowest average rates were North Carolina, New Hampshire, Idaho, Wyoming and Hawaii.
The company pointed out that location can figure largely in auto insurance rates due to weather, traffic and vehicle crime rates.
