Ford and General Motors recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles each over problems that increase crash risk.

Ford recalled about 145,000 Maverick pickup trucks because their rear-view cameras displays may freeze up while the vehicles are in reverse due to a software defect.

Though a recall notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website says certain 2022 to 2024 models with Connected Touch Radios can present the problem, it also indicates 100% may have the defect that causes the image freezing.

The problem software in the radios was removed from production in late 2023, according to the notice.

Ford dealers will update the radio software. The Detroit-area automaker is scheduled to mail recall notices to consumers on Sept. 30.

GM Recall

Meanwhile, fellow legacy automaker GM recalled about 450,000 pickups and SUVs due to defective brake fluid warning lights.

The recall affects the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 and 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban; GMC Yukon and Yukon XL; and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.

The vehicles’ electronic brake control module warning light may not indicate low brake fluid due to a software issue, posing the possibility of degraded brake performance and risk of crash, according to a recall notice.

The issue resulted from a misalignment of the electronic brake control module software and the software’s calibrations.
