WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is again urging Congress to send him a package of tax breaks and other incentives to help small businesses grow and create jobs, reported The Associated Press.
The legislation would eliminate capital gains taxes for investments in such companies and encourage people to open businesses by offering tax relief to small startups.
Obama says his administration is constantly hearing from small businesses that want to keep the workers they have and hire more employees, but are having trouble getting credit.
Obama spoke at a White House Rose Garden event with small business owners, his second such event in recent weeks.
On a side note, Congressional hopeful Dino Rossi used the president's comments as a chance to get a dig in at his opponent.
“I am happy the President has turned his attention to creating an economic environment for America's job creators to grow and hire more workers," Rossi said in a statement.
He went on to say: “For too long, Patty Murray and the rest of the Democrat establishment in Washington, D.C., have been punishing small business owners on Main Street for the bad decisions made by the big companies on Wall Street, and that must stop. While Main Street businesses have been struggling to keep their doors open, Patty Murray has pushed through job-killing legislation which raises taxes, increases health care costs, and drives up energy prices, all of which make it harder for small businesses to stay competitive."
