Ford tops a list of auto brands whose certified preowned vehicles’ cost of ownership is under what’s expected for their segment and sticker prices.

The Detroit-area automaker won more nods than any competitor in Vincentric’s 11th annual Best Certified Pre-Owned Value in America awards, including best truck brand for its F-150 Lightning and Maverick Hybrid.

Meanwhile Toyota’s Avalon continued to draw distinction on affordability with its 10th straight award in the large sedan segment. And the Japanese automaker’s Corolla Hybrid topped the compact segment for the third overall Corolla win.

“CPO vehicles can be a smart way for car shoppers to save on costs, but there can also be an overwhelming number of options to choose from,” said Vincentric President David Wurster. The data provider focuses on vehicle value metrics.

“The Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Awards can help consumers make an informed vehicle purchase decision. And with most of this year’s winners being repeat winners in their segments, consumers can have confidence that buying an award-winning CPO vehicle will likely deliver consistent value over time.”

To determine award winners, the company said it reviewed more than 18,000 vehicle profiles across depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel cost, insurance, maintenance, repairs and “opportunity cost” in light of manufacturers’ CPO warranties and required mileage to qualify as an OEM CPO vehicle. All vehicles were separately evaluated in each state and Washington, D.C., on the idea that each would be driven 15,000 miles each year over five years.
