Business Owners Finding More Time to Relax

Small-business owners are still workaholics, but they are finding a little more time to relax, according to a new survey reported by AOL Small Business.

The May Discover Small Business Watch found that business owners are working less per week than last year, but continue to work more hours and more holidays than the general population.

Fifty-six percent of business owners reported working six- or seven-day weeks, down 5 percent from last year.

Even though fewer small business owners are working long weeks, 38 percent of them still reported working 10 or more hours per day. Only 19 percent of the general population said they work 10 or more hours per day.

More than half of small business owners (55 percent) said they work through most holidays. While that's 3 percent less than last year, only 27 percent of the general population work through most holidays.

Fears about the recession remain, but appear to be fading gradually. According to the survey, 51 percent of business owners said the economy forced them to cancel or postpone vacations or time off, down from 58 percent a year ago.
